Judy Meyler is an impressionistic painter who works exclusively in oils. Her brushwork is vibrant and flowing with color and texture. Meyler's subject matter includes portraiture (specializing in children and animals), still lifes, landscapes and cityscapes. Meyler specializes in working from candid photographs, though she also enjoys painting from life. Meyler began painting as a child and has continued her art studies at North Carolina A&T State University and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She has studied with notable artists Daniel Green, John Lines, Ann Templeton, Morgan Samuel Price, Anita Louise West, Dee Beard Dean, Scott Burdick and Susan Lyon, and locally, with watercolorist Chuck McLachlan and oil painter Connie Winters. For the past two years Meyler has been a member of the Piedmont Outdoor Painting Society (POPS) plein air group, . This group of eleven plein-air (or outdoor) artists paint together weekly to capture the beautiful vistas and landscapes of the Piedmont and surrounding areas, including some of North Carolina?s Land Conservancy regions. The group has exhibited their works at many prestigious fine art galleries and other well-known locations such as The Reynolda Gardens of Wake Forest University. The group is proud to show annually at The Goat Lady Dairy in Climax, North Carolina. Meyler has received several awards and honors for her works. North Carolina A&T State University purchased one of her paintings for their permanent collection. In March 2006, Meyler won first place in the AAWS Primary Colors Competition. She was commissioned to create the Salvation Army's Honor Card for Christmas 2007 and 2008, and the Preservation Greensboro's Christmas card depicting a lovely Fisher Park home. With a formal education in commercial art, specializing in line illustration, Meyler has painted several murals around the Piedmont area. She completed a North Carolina-themed mural at Guilford Day School?s media center, as well as an Old Testament-themed mural at Fellowship Presbyterian Church in Greensboro. Meyler is a popular local art instructor who offers weekly adult oil painting classes. She welcomes students of all levels who want to enhance their knowledge and build their own unique skills. Meyler considers herself a coach who encourages students look at their past work in a new way. She demonstrates painting techniques, and offers critiques and personalized guidance to help her students quickly advance their painting style and skills. She places special emphasis on color theory and color mixing, in addition to other fundamental painting skills. Judy Meyler resides in Greensboro with her husband John and their three children, Scott, Allyson and Eric. |
